About the Platform
The Prosumer Alliance platform is a federation of communities (“pods”) centered around particular sets of values. In contrast to existing broad values-based indexes such as ESG, pods are envisioned as more narrowly focused, tied to specific geographic regions (e.g. the Mountain West), or to sub-sectors within broad industries (e.g. “solar energy transmission”), or even to alignment with particular governmental policies (“Pro-DACA”).
Pods are created and managed by individuals with background expertise, who craft a specific thesis and goals for the pod, and recruit members into the pod. (An individual may be a member of more than one pod.)
Every pod includes a market index, created by the manager, comprised of companies that align with the values of the pod. Members invest virtual dollars in their pods’ associated funds. The rise and fall of the index serves as a valuable tool measuring the performance of those companies against standard market indexes (DOW, S&P); broader values-based indexes (ESG); and other narrow custom indexes within The Prosumer Alliance.
Every pod also has a “Consumer Action” section where members are issued challenges related to their spending. Challenges may involve boycotting a company, ceasing use of an on-line service, supporting a particular company with a token purchase, cancelling travel plans to a particular location, and other actions with real-world impacts. Consumer actions are time-bound, and their success is measured and reported publicly.
Every pod will also include resource areas where managers can post relevant materials and discussion forums where members can engage directly with one another.
